Defining holistic care as a nutritionist and reiki practitioner

pondernutrition

What does "holistic" mean to me?

Simply put, it is the interconnectedness of all things.

Of your emotions, your digestive system, and the energy that surrounds you and your environment.

Of the seasons of the earth and your energy and mood.

Of your relationship with your pain, not just the pain itself.

It means capturing the entirety of your life within the space we share together - not just microscoping down to one symptom or affliction.

I can anchor my view of the macrocosm that is "you" both scientifically and energetically. This is the fun of the work that I do. We meet together and feel who is asking for attention first - your body or your soul.

Our body speaks its disfunction through physical symptoms - our world has become so loud with expectations, with "shoulds" that her more subtler messages often get drowned out.

As with all things there is a spectrum. Starting my personal work I was coming from a place of necessity, physically speaking. Times of strife and trauma had left me in need of nourishment. The first step was eating enough, and eating enough of the right things. Then came the support for my nervous system and a focus on sleeping soundly. And so on and so on..

Through offering physical nourishment I was able to better connect with my energetic and spiritual self. I was able to hear her and hold her through the channel of my newly nourished vessel. From necessity to intentionality. From what do I need to what do I desire?

From an energetic perspective this is a movement from the energy of my root chakra winding into the energy of my sacral chakra.

Our root chakra transmutes feelings of fear and lack to feelings of safety and abundance. Slithering up into my sacral chakra to activate feelings of creativity and desire. Creativity that flows easier and freely when I allow myself to be nourished and held from the energy of the earth and the whole foods she supplies. This is what I want for you too, sweet soul.

So, where to begin?

Decoding the messages from your body as step 1 - where are your physical symptoms taking place? Taking time to get to know the normal function of that system and how or why things may have gone awry. What does your body need, what is she asking for, both physically and energetically? These are the beginnings of my ponderings.

Perhaps you are reacting more strongly to foods and your environment - could this be translated energetically and emotionally? Yes - your histamine system is firing more than it should. It is your "threat detection" system internally.. where in your life are you feeling fear and threat? Holistically I am offering root chakra and immune system support here.

If the physical realm is where you feel comfortable staying, let me offer another example. If skin issues is something you are struggling with we can look at a few things - first, the skin is the largest organ in the body, but it is also a last line of detoxification for the body. Here, I would look at the health of your liver and kidneys. How could you increase nourishment to them through targeted nutrients, fiber, and hydration to sweep toxins that may be getting caught up in the skin. Secondly, the lining of the gut and the skin often mirror each other. Could there be lingering food allergies or inflammation within your digestive system pointing us to do some work there? Identification of crossover symptoms is key here.

Arriving with you at your level of comfortability is my goal - I am happy to translate the energetics of your body intuitively if that is something you desire. We can also sit together in the physical realm for as long as you need, or indefinitely.

My journey with physical nourishment and reiki has opened up a receptivity to energy and the earth like I have never felt before.

When I sit with the tree I feel her generosity. I feel her absolute strength. Most importantly, she reminds me of the interconnectedness of all things. Her root system running deep underground sending pings to the trees in her environment, and beyond. With deep reverence and gratitude I translate that energy to you, sweet reader.

All my love,

Nikki
